The GDT (German Society for Nature Photography) is honoured to present the 2025 GDT Honorary Award to Rosamund Kidman Cox OBE, in recognition of her outstanding contributions to nature photography, environmental storytelling, and wildlife conservation over more than four decades.

A pioneering editor, author, and advocate, Roz has helped shape the public’s understanding of the natural world through powerful storytelling and imagery. As the longtime editor of BBC Wildlife Magazine, she brought conservation issues to the forefront of public discourse — long before they became part of the mainstream.

Her influence is also widely felt through her involvement in the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition. Over 40 years, she helped transform it into one of the world’s most respected platforms for nature photography — combining artistic excellence with environmental impact. Her deep editorial vision elevated the competition into an art form that inspired audiences around the world.

Roz has authored and edited dozens of photography-led books and BBC titles, including Planet Earth, Frozen Planet, and the Wildlife Photographer of the Year portfolio series. She curated the WildPhotos speakers’ event in London and has played a key role in mentoring and supporting generations of photographers, writers, and conservationists.

Her contributions extend to the charitable sector as well, through her service with organisations including Born Free, the Orangutan Foundation, and the Avon Wildlife Trust, where she served as Chair.

Rosamund Kidman Cox’s career has been defined by a rare combination of vision, humility, and generosity. Through her work in photography, she has built bridges between people and nature — and changed the way the world sees the wild.
